BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Seniors
Zachary Gillard and
Ethan Ross combined for 19 kills without a single hitting error in 32 attempts (.594) as visiting Nazareth snapped a six-match losing streak with a three-set sweep of Medaille in men's volleyball action Wednesday. Scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-16.
Gillard posted a match-best 13 kills on 19 swings (.684) and Ross added six kills in 13 attempts (.462) as Nazareth improved to 9-9 overall with the non-conference win. Medaille dropped to 4-10 overall.
Joe Crosby also had six kills and three blocks and freshman setter
Jason Proud produced 18 assists.
Gillard had five kills and a pair of service aces as Nazareth took set one. He added five more kills in the second set and was one of four players to have three kills in he third set. Ross, Crosby and
Sean Dillon were the others.
The Golden Flyers never trailed in winning the first set, then used a 6-1 scoring run in the second set to turn a 10-7 deficit into a 13-11 lead. Gillard and Crosby each had kills during the rally and combined for a block on another point. Crosby also had a kill on set point.
The third set was tied at 12-12 when Nazareth took off on a 6-0 run with two kills by Ross and one each for Crosby and
Jordan Hildreth fueling the run.
Nazareth is home for three matches this weekend. The Golden Flyers host Sage Friday at 6 p.m., then Vassar and Mount St. Joseph Saturday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
