NEW PALTZ, NY – The Nazareth College men's volleyball team played its final two regular season matches and split the results with a 3-1 loss to SUNY New Paltz and a 3-0 victory over Northern Vermont University-Johnson. Both matches took place at New Paltz.

The Golden Flyers (15-11 overall, 3-6 UVC) lost the opening set to New Paltz (19-7, 7-1) by a 25-20 score but rebounded to tie the match at 1-1 with a thrilling 27-25 win in the second set. The Hawks took the final two sets 25-19 and 25-18 to score the victory. The loss coupled with a Vassar College win over Elmira Friday night eliminated the Golden Flyers from the UVC postseason tournament.

Nazareth rebounded from the loss to dominate Northern Vermont (1-17) with a straight sets win by scores of 25-9, 25-7 and 25-4.

Senior Ethan Ross led Nazareth with 10 kills against New Paltz and recorded six more in the Vermont match. Sophomore Jacob Rhea also had six kills against Vermont. Senior Zachary Gillard and Rhea served three aces each against Vermont while senior Tyler Farnung and freshman Jordan Hildreth had three aces apiece in the New Paltz match.

Freshman Jason Proud handed out 17 assists in the second match while Farnung led Nazareth with 24 in the opener. Juniors Dan Shorney (nine digs against Vermont) and Luis Vazquez (14 digs vs. New Paltz) led the Nazareth defense.
