PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Host St. John Fisher built a 6-2 first-quarter lead and then tacked on five more goals in the third quarter Wednesday in a 15-10 men's lacrosse victory over the Golden Flyers at Growney Stadium.

Behind six goals and one assist from Nick Miller and 14 saves from goalie Darin Eakins, Fisher improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 Conference action, Nazareth, which got two goals each from Kevin Hussey and Jon Lippert, dropped to 3-6 overall an 1-1 in conference games.

Miller scored three of his goals in the first quarter, including one on man-up, and added another in he second quarter to boost the Cardinals to a 7-2 lead. Nazareth's first-half goals came from four different players -- Lippert, Colin McElligott, Jon Roth and Jeremy Jacob -- as the Golden Flyers trailed 8-4 at the break. Jacob's goal came just before time expired to end the first half.

Any Nazareth comeback thoughts were vanquished in the third quarter as Fisher scored five more times with three coming from Ian Evans and two by Jack Mulvihill. Nazareth countered with a pair of goals by Hussey, his 20th and 21st of the season, but Fisher's lead became insurmountable at 13-6.

Tim Vinton won the opening face-off of the fourth quarter for Nazareth and sprinted to the goal to score just seven seconds into the period, but Nazareth had difficulty generating uncontested shots thereafter. Miller delivered two more goals for the Cardinals to bring the score to 15-7 and Nazareth closed out the scoring with a three-goal flurry in a 27-second span of the closing minute. Drew McNerney, Anthony Basile and Lippert had the goals.

Nazareth had a 47-34 advantage in shots and Vinton managed to win 13 of 22 face-offs with five ground balls. Owen Penoyer had three caused turnovers and goalie Eric Almquist had seven saves.

Nazareth is on the road again Saturday for another Empire 8 Conference game at Hartwick at 2 p.m.
