ELMIRA, NY – Senior Ethan Ross recorded 14 kills, nine digs and six blocks to lead the Nazareth College men's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Elmira College Wednesday night in a United Volleyball Conference match.
Nazareth (12-10 overall, 3-5 UVC) won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21 before Elmira (11-15, 1-6) rebounded to win the third set 25-20. The Golden Flyers rallied to win the fourth set and the match 25-23.
In the final set, Elmira trailed 20-17 late before calling a timeout and winning the next three points to knot the score at 20-20.
Freshman Jordan Hildreth stopped the run with a kill and Nazareth took a two-point lead after an attack error to forge ahead 22-20.
The teams traded points before a service error allowed Elmira to close within a point at 23-22.
The Soaring Eagles surrendered a service error of their own but a kill allowed Elmira to prevent the match winning point before junior Sean Dillon closed out the match with a kill from setter Tyler Farnung for the 25-23 win.
Senior Zachary Gillard led the Golden Flyers with 15 kills and Hildreth finished with nine kills and a team-leading 12 digs. Farnung handed out 46 assists.
