Nazareth Blanked in UCHC Tournament Semifinal

PINE VALLEY, NY – The first season for Nazareth College women's hockey came to an end Saturday as the Golden Flyers dropped a 2-0 decision to William Smith in the semifinal round of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Tournament at the Murray Athletic Center at Elmira College.

William Smith (14-8-3) advances to play top-seeded Elmira College Saturday for the UCHC Tournament title.

After a scoreless first period, Nazareth (19-5-2) surrendered a power play goal in the second period as William Smith took the lead at the 12:13 mark of the period.

The Herons added to the lead in the third period with a goal at the 7:11 mark and held on for the victory as the Golden Flyers were unable to find the back of the net. The shutout loss was just the second of the season for Nazareth who started its first season of women's varsity hockey with 10 straight wins.

The Golden Flyers tied and defeated William Smith in the final two games of the regular season including a 3-1 win in Geneva and earned the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament.

Nazareth finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the country in scoring offense with 120 goals in 26 games for an average of 4.62 goals per contest and finished 11th in the nation in scoring defense allowing just 1.46 goals (38 goals in 26 games) per game.

Adrianna Brehm, who earned the UCHC Goaltender of the Year award earlier in the week, finished with 17 saves.
