Robinson Scores Four to lead Nazareth past Bridgewater

ENGLEWOOD, FL – Freshman Emma Robinson scored four goals including three in the second half as the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team built and early lead and held on for a 10-9 victory over Bridgewater State Wednesday afternoon at Lemon Bay High School.

Nazareth (2-3) took the early edge with five of the first six goals of the game as freshman Lauren Caldwell and sophomore Regan McGwin each scored in the first eight minutes of play.

Bridgewater (3-1) answered with a goal to trim the lead before Robinson scored her first of the game a minute later followed by two more goals for the Golden Flyers as junior Lily Aldrich and sophomore Callahan Lyon added goals to give Nazareth a 5-1 lead 18 minutes into the contest.

The Bears scored to stop the run at the 10:56 mark in the first half but junior Rachel Wilson scored to regain the four-goal edge less than a minute later and neither team was able to score for the remainder of the opening period.

In the second half, Bridgewater opened the scoring before Robinson and Lyon each added their second goals of the game within a minute of each other and Nazareth took the 8-3 lead with 22:28 left.

The Bears then scored four of the next five goals to trim the lead down to 9-7. Robinson scored in the middle of the run for the Golden Flyers and scored again with 3:29 remaining to push the lead to 10-7.

Bridgewater scored with 2:15 remaining and then added a ninth goal with 13 seconds left to play making the lead just a goal at 10-9.

The Bears won the draw after a battle for the loose ball and did not have time to move the ball into the offensive zone as Nazareth celebrated its second win of the season.

Robinson's four points led Nazareth as Lyon (two goals), Aldrich (one goal and one assist and junior Addilys Geitner (two assists) each finished with a pair of points.

Senior Brianna Rizzari made seven saves to earn the victory in goal.

Nazareth continues its Florida training trip at 10 a.m. Friday against Westfield State at Ann Dever Park in Englewood.
