HOPEDALE, Mass. -- Visiting Nazareth posted its second straight shutout victory over non-conference rival Anna Maria Saturday as the Golden Flyers dominated from start to finish in a 9-0 victory at Blackstone Valley Rink.
The victory, on the heels of an 8-0 win over the Amcats on Friday, left the Golden Flyers unbeaten at 4-0 to go with a pristine 26-1 goal differential. Anna Maria is 0-4.
Sophomore
Abbey Luth scored three goals for the Golden Flyers and added an assist just one day after freshman
Makenna Wiljanen produced a hat trick for the Golden Flyers. Sophomore
Madison Nichols added a pair of goals with Wiljanen,
Hailey Redders,
Rae Rice and
Celena Rea netting one goal each.
Two of Nazareth's goals came as a result of three power play opportunities, including the first goal of the game by Luth just 3:29 into the game.
Jessica Kollberg and
Stephanie Kubis picked up assists. Nichols added her two goals before the first period ended as Nazareth led 3-0.
The Golden Flyers poured it on with four more goals in the second period with Redders scoring on the power play off another assist from Kollberg just over a minute into the period. Luth, off to a good start after transferring to Nazareth from William Smith, had a goal and an assist. Rice and Rea also added goals to push the lead to 7-0.
Luth's third goal came just 3:41 into the third period with an assist from Kubis. Wiljanen added her team-leading sixth goal of the season less than four minutes later with assists from
Madison Schroeder and
Morgan Leuenberger.
Sophomore
Noelle Giroux was in goal to post her second straight shutout win with eight saves. Nazareth had a 31-8 advantage in shots on goal.
The Golden Flyers return to their home ice Tuesday for their United Collegiate Hockey Conference opener against Utica at 7 p.m. at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.
