Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Lydia Dewart scored five minutes into the game to give the Nazareth College field hockey team an early 1-0 lead but Hartwick evened the score in the third quarter and scored the game-winner with 2:06 remaining for the 2-1 Empire 8 Conference victory Saturday afternoon.
Dewart's goal came after a nice run by freshman Bailey Selman who picked up the loose ball at midfield and carried it all the way into the circle. Her shot was stopped by Hartwick (9-5 overall, 3-1 E8) goalie Allyson Osborne but the rebound was controlled by Dewart who slapped the ball in for the early Nazareth (6-9, 2-3 E8).
In the third quarter, Hartwick evened the score on a penalty corner.
With just two minutes left in regulation play, the Hawks had a several chances that were stopped by Nazareth sophomore goalie Amanda Chuttey but a loose ball at the end of the sequence was tapped into the back of the goal for the go-ahead goal.
Nazareth had a pair of penalty corners late in the fourth quarter but could not net the equalizer.
Each team had 14 shots in the game with Nazareth holding a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal and an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Prior to the start of the game seniors Jennifer Hilts and Alexandra Livesey were honored for their careers for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth will play next with a 6 p.m. game at Wells College and return to Empire 8 play next Saturday at Elmira.
