DELAWARE, Ohio -- Nazareth's field hockey team traveled west Saturday to take on Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference game and the home team scored four unanswered goals in recording a 5-1 triumph over the Golden Flyers at Selby Stadium.
The host Battling Bishops improved to 3-1 overall, while Nazareth fell to 2-2.
Ohio Wesleyan scored first on an unassisted tally by Barbara Welling, who had two goals on the day. Junior
Madison Bianchi tied the score less than three minutes later for the Golden Flyers as she connected on her team-leading third goal off a penalty corner taken by
Emily Prescott, who gained the assist.
The go-ahead goal then came about eight minutes later a a goal by Astried Koek enabled the Battling Bishops to carry a 2-1 lead into the break.
Ohio Wesleyan tacked on three more goals in the second half, including the second goal of the game by Welling, to pull away.
Nazareth was able to generate scoring chances throughout the game with 17 shots and 11 penalty corners, but Ohio Wesleyan goalie Paige Ross was able to make eight saves. Nazareth, meanwhile, employed three goalkeepers with senior
Kimber Nourse making six saves in 50 minutes. Sophomore
Ashley Mann came in to make two saves and freshman
Amanda Chuttey had three.
The Golden Flyers are back home Tuesday for a non-conference game against William Smith at 5 p.m.
