Nazareth blanks Morrisville in season opener, 5-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored all five of its goals in the first half Friday and coasted to a 5-0 field hockey victory over Morrisville in the season opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior Madison Bianchi scored two goals, including the first one of the game just 1:46 in off an assist from senior Leah Good, to jumpstart the offense.
  • Good finished with a goal and two assists with seven shots and one defensive save
  • Junior Jennifer Hilts and freshman Mikaylee Whalen also scored goals and sophomore Abbey Szumloz had an assist.
  • After Bianchi's first goal, Morrisville had a great chance to the tie the score, but Good made a diving defensive save on a shot by Brianna Fischetti to keep the Mustangs off the scoreboard.
  • After Nazareth led 2-0, the Golden Flyers' next three goals -- by Hilts, Whalen and Good -- came within a 10-minute span.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Nazareth dominated the stat sheet with a 37-12 advantage in shots and an 18-4 edge in penalty corners.
  • Good and Hilts each had seven shots and Whalen and senior Jessica Livesey each had five.
  • Senior Kimber Nourse played the first 48 minutes in goal and was credited with one save. Freshman Amanda Chuttey had two saves over the final 22 minutes.
