Women's Lax Downs Harwick; Secures No. 3 Seed For E8 Tournament

Oneonta, NY – Visiting Nazareth scored nine goals in each half, en route to an 18-7 victory over Hartwick Saturday afternoon to secure the No. 3 seed for next weekend's Empire 8 Championships.  Top-seeded Stevens will host the tournament and take on fourth-seeded Utica on Saturday in the first semifinal at 11 a.m.  Nazareth and second-seeded St. John Fisher will follow, with a start time of 2 p.m.

Nazareth improves to 11-5 on the year and 6-2 in league play, while Hartwick falls to 8-6 and 4-4, respectively.

Haley DeVona had three of her four goals in the first half, bringing her season total to 43. She also added an assist.  Freshman Tori Blazey recorded five points as well, including her second goal of the game with under four minutes to play, giving her 20 goals for the year.

Nazareth was in control 9-1 before the Hawks scored the final two goals of the half with less than a minute to play, making it 9-3 at the break.

Bridget Collins and Kellie Byrne each chipped in two goals and an assist for head coach Traci Lian, while Maeghan O'Brien was credited with two goal and two helpers.

Jamie Martin scored a goal in each half, while Katie Carroll netted two goals to bring her season total to 25.

Addilys Geitner and Morgan Johnson also got in on the scoring with a goal apiece.

Brianna Rizzari stopped nine shots and allowed five goals in 49:50 of play.  Senior Mackenzie Corbett allowed two goals in her time between the pipes.
