UTICA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored twice in each half and dominated from start to finish Saturday for a 4-0 women's soccer victory over Utica in Empire 8 Conference action.
The victory was the 300th in the head coaching career of Nazareth's
Gail Mann, now in her 25th season with the Golden Flyers. Nazareth improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the E8. Utica dropped to 3-5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference games.
Among the winningest active coaches in Division III, Mann now has a career record of 300-131-51 for a .675 winning percentage.
On Saturday, Nazareth took control early as senior
Julia Delgatti scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season just four minutes in. About eight minutes later, senior
Laura Herman made it 2-0 with her first goal of the season off a pass from junior
Mary Kate Ordway.
Nazareth tacked on two more goals in the second half as senior
Paige Sullivan finished off a pass from
Mia Strollo, who collected the assist for her first career point. Then in the 82nd minute, a touch pass from
Jessica Byrnes led to the second goal of the season for junior
Mary LoCicero, who finished the play.
The Golden Flyers unleashed 25 shots, 19 of which were on goal and forcing Utica's Allison Wagner to make 15 saves. Sophomore
Hannah Miller played all 90 minutes in goal for Nazareth and made five saves for her fourth shutout of the season.
Nazareth is home again Tuesday for a non-conference game against the University of Rochester at 4 p.m.
