ROCHESTER, NY – Host RIT took the lead 10 minutes into the opening half and held it the rest of the contest for a 13-10 victory over Nazareth Tuesday night.
With the loss, RIT snapped Nazareth's four-game win streak, bringing the Golden Flyers record to 4-3 on the season. RIT is now 5-2.
RIT opened up a 6-3 advantage near the midway point of the half. The Golden Flyers came within 6-5 on goals from
Jamie Martin and
Katie Carroll.
The Tigers were able to net two goals in the late stages of the half to bring an 8-5 margin into the break. Senior
Gabbie Charles scored Nazareth's first three goals, including giving Nazareth a 3-2 lead eight minutes in.
Nazareth cut the lead to two goals on two separate occasions in the second. Martin scored a man-up goal early to make it 8-6. After consecutive goals from the Tigers just four minutes into the half, only two goals were scored over the next 13 minutes, both at the hands of the Golden Flyers.
Bridget Collins scored her first of the game off an assist from
Kate Rothrock. Rothrock later was on the scoring end at the 13 minute mark to make it 10-8.
RIT was able to gain distance late in the game with the next three goals before Nazareth scored the final two tallies to make the score 13-10.
Martin and Charles each ended with three goals. Rothrock was credited with two goals and two assists.
Brianna Rizzari allowed 12 goals in 51:33 of action, making five saves.
Mackenzie Corbett had one save in 8:27.
Nazareth returns to action on Thursday for a 5 p.m. matchup at Fredonia.
