OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Nationally ranked York College of Pennsylvania jumped on Nazareth early Saturday by scoring the first seven goals of the game on the way to a 13-9 men's lacrosse victory in a non-conference game.

Nazareth scored eight of its nine goals in the second half, but couldn't overcome an early deficit from the first half that ended with an 8-1 lead for the Spartans. Saturday's game was part of the fourth annual Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson University.

Jack Crowley and Joe Eiskant each scored twice and Connor Chapman had three assists for Nazareth, which dropped to 2-3 overall. York, ranked sixth nationally, got three goals each from Dillon Hannah and Austin Glab and improved to 7-1. The Golden Flyers play again Saturday against Denison at 12:30 p.m.

Nazareth had significant first-half possession time and generated 20 shots as Seth DeLisle won eight of 10 face-offs (and 19 of 25 overall). But two hit the post and five others were saved by York goalie Landry Marshall. The Spartans, meanwhile, took advantage of their first-half chances as they took 26 shots and scored on eight, including the first seven of the half. Nazareth was held off the scoreboard until 3:19 remained in the first half when Eiskant scored off a pass from Connor Chapman. That made the score 7-1. After that, York scored a back-breaking goal as Brendan McGrath beat the halftime horn by scoring off a pass from Thomas Pfeiffer.

Nazareth scored the first three goals of the third quarter -- Anthony Basile, Crowley and Chris Murphy -- to close within 8-4, but York scored the final two to take a 10-4 advantage into the final period.

The Golden Flyers scored five more times in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans kept the them on the defensive by scoring three goals of their own. Eiskant and Crowley each scored their second goals of the game, while Hunter Burdick contributed one goal and two assists. Jacob Gray and Paul Walter also scored.

Alex Winkler played the entire game in goal and made 11 saves. DeLisle had seven ground balls in addition to winning 19 face-offs. Nazareth also committed nine turnovers to none for York.
