CLERMONT, Fla. -- Nazareth's
Haley DeVona scored three of her game-high five goals in the first half Thursday as the Golden Flyers built a 10-2 halftime lead en route to a 17-7 women's lacrosse victory over Western New England at the National Training Center.
The victory evened Nazareth's overall record at 2-2 as the Golden Flyers also defeated Westfield State on Tuesday, 15-9. Western New England is 2-4.
Freshman Maegan O'Brien added three goals and two assists and senior Kate Rotrock had two goals and two assists. Senior
Nicole DeVona also scored twice.
Nazareth took control early by scoring the first six goals, with the first two from the stick of
Haley DeVona, who leads the Golden Flyers with 12 goals. Seniors
Jamie Martin and
Gabbie Charles each added free-position goals and Rothrock scored twice in a 55-second sequence that gave Nazareth a commanding 6-0 lead.
Nazareth's lead grew to 10-2 before halftime as O'Brien and
Bridget Collins each netted their first career goals. O'Brien also generated both of her assists.
Nazareth continued to dominate in the second half as
Haley DeVona and O'Brien scored twice each and freshman
Lily Aldrich and sophomore
Kyra Kempney each scored teir first career goals. Kempney also had four ground balls and three draw controls.
Sophomore
Brianna Rizzari started in goal and had three saves. Junior
Mackenzie Corbett had one.
Nazareth plays again Tuesday at home against Rochester at 4 p.m.
