Guidi's Late Goal Lifts Naz Over Sage, 3-2

Box l Updated Stats

Rochester, NY –Visiting Sage erased a two-goal first half deficit, only to have Elizabeth Guidi score the game-winning goal with less than seven minutes remaining, as Nazareth downed the Gators 3-2 Sunday.  It was the first-ever Empire 8 matchup between the two teams.

After holding a two goal lead at halftime, Nazareth saw its lead evaporate in the second half with goals in the 47th and 81st minutes.

Guidi had an answer, however, blasting a shot from 35-yards into the top corner for her third goal of the season.  The goal came at the 83:39 mark.

Nazareth moves to 8-4-1 overall with the victory and 3-1 in Empire 8 play.  Sage drops to 4-7-1 and 0-3-1, respectively.

In the fifth minute, Nazareth generated a quality opportunity, as Julia Delgatti got to end line and played a pass into the middle for a one-time shot from Laura Herman.

The Golden Flyers opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute on a strong buildup through the midfield.  Paige Sullivan took a pass from Herman streaking down the left side and threaded  a pass from outside the box for a one-time goal by Delgatti.  It was Delgatti's fourth goal of the weekend after netting three against Stevens on Saturday.

Two minutes later, freshman Miranda Timberlake lofted a shot over the goalkeepers head from 22-yards out to give the Golden Flyers a 2-0 lead.

Sage came within 2-1 early in the second half, when Lydia Malkiewicz bent a shot into the inside post from 25 yards out.

The Gators made good on a give-away in the midfield with less than 10 minutes remaining to even the score at 2-2.  Samantha Trimblett beat Hannah Miller to the far post.

Miller made four saves in net for Nazareth.

Nazareth returns to action October 18th, when it hosts St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.
