PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Visiting Nazareth dropped a tough non-conference decision at Carnegie Mellon Tuesday as the 10th-ranked Tartans scored once in each half of a 2-0 women's soccer victory over the Golden Flyers.
Goals have been difficult to come by of late for the Golden Flyers, who lost for the second straight time without scoring and now stand at 6-4-1 overall. Carnegie Mellon won for the fifth straight time -- all by shutout -- to improve to 8-1-1 overall.
Nazareth generated only five shots with just one that Tartans goalie Carolyn Botz needed to save. That came in the first half off the foot of
Julia Delgatti. She had two shots overall as did
Paige Sullivan.
Nicole Petocchi had the other shot.
Carnegie Mellon scored in the ninth minute as Ryan Casey dribbled past the Nazareth defense to deliver a left-footed shot that beat keeper
Hannah Miller for her eighth goal of the season.
The Tartans scored again in the 59th minute as Tessa Allen gained credit when she headed in a corner kick off the foot of Tori Iatarola.
Carnegie Mellon had 14 shots and eight corner kicks. Miller had four saves in goal.
Nazareth gets back to Empire 8 Conference play this weekend with a pair of key home games. The Golden Flyers host Stevens Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sage Sunday at 1 p.m.
