ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host RIT converted a penalty kick less than seven minutes into the first overtime Tuesday to lift the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over Nazareth in a non-conference men's soccer match.
Nazareth had evened the score with less than six minutes remaining in regulation play when senior
Lucas Bennett scored his second goal of the season, but RIT capitalized in overtime to improve to 3-3-1 overall. Nazareth also is 3-3-1 overall.
In overtime, RIT's Dean Kouroupas scored on the pk after Nazareth's
Dylan Eichas committed a foul in the penalty area. That ended a game in which RIT had a 15-7 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Freshman
Brian Wilkin was credited with seven saves in goal for the Golden Flyers. Peter Cinibulk had two saves for the Tigers.
RIT scored the first goal at 26:01 as Akram Mesa tapped in a rebound following a shot by Gene Sicoli that was initially saved by Wilkin.
The score was unchanged until the 85th minute when Bennett scored his ninth career goal on a 15-yard blast that found the upper corner of the goal for the tying score.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday with a match at Ithaca at 3 p.m.
