ALFRED, NY – In a physical matchup that featured 10 cards between both squads, Nazareth and host Alfred settled for a 1-1 draw Saturday to open up conference play.
Nazareth moves to 3-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in Empire 8 play with the tie, while Alfred goes to 4-1-1 and 0-0-1, respectively.
Both of the games goals were scored in the first half of the game. The home squad took the lead in the 25
th minute as Jessie Lichtman combined with James Piombino for a header goal.
Nazareth would answer later in the first half, when
Dylan Toscano scored an unassisted goal. It was Toscano's third goal of the season and he now has a team-leading seven points.
The Saxons lost two players to red card ejections in the 87
th and 90
th minutes, however, Nazareth was unable to capitalize on the two-man advantage.
The Golden Flyers outshot the Saxons 3-1 in the overtime period, yet the Saxons finished the 110 minutes with an 18-6 edge in shots.
Freshman goalkeeper
Brian Wilkin made seven saves in net for Nazareth.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday when it will travel to RIT for a 4 p.m. contest.
