Men's Soccer Falls to Fredonia Under The Lights, 3-1

Box Score l Updated Stats

ROCHESTER, NY – Visiting Fredonia converted three goals off set pieces to earn a 3-1 victory over Nazareth Wednesday night under the lights on the Artificial Turf.  The Blue Devils converted two header goals off corner kicks and one more off a free kick.

Nazareth falls to 3-2 with the loss, while Fredonia improves to 3-1-1.

It was the visitors who struck first with Brandon Butts putting down a header from Ryan Keller directly of the corner for the opening goal.

Alessio DeMichele had Nazareth's best chance of the half when he blasted a left footed shot from 30 yards out, forcing the Fredonia goalkeeper to tip the ball over the net.

The score remained 1-0 at the break.

Goalkeeper Brian Wilkin made two huge key saves in the second half to keep the score at 1-0.  He made a diving save in the 54th minute on a shot from 18-yards out.

Shortly after, Nazareth surrendered a penalty kick, which Wilkin pushed aside.  It was Wilkin's second saved penalty kick this season.

Fredonia, however, pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute as Butts used his height advantage once again to convert a corner kick.

Nazareth responded with a goal of its own less than two minutes later when Dylan Toscano threaded a pass to Ben Rodney, who placed a shot past the keeper.

The Blue Devils regained a two goal advantage on a free kick from 40 yards out that slipped past the Nazareth defense in the 74th minute.

Wilkin finished the game with nine saves.

Nazareth begins a three game roadtrip on Saturday when it travels to Alfred for a 1 p.m. contest.
