Cameron Hess broke her own school record in the 500-yard freestyle after posting a time of 5:04.01 to finish third as the Golden Flyers competed in day one of the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championship meet at Ithaca's Aquatics Pavilion.
Junior Lillian Masters competed in the same event in the consolation heat (5:20.76) for a15th place finish. Nazareth's 200 medley relay team of Brenna Riley, Kimberly Pedrotti, Erika Holland and Shannon O'Malley finished first in the consolation final and ninth overall in 1:52.95.
Ithaca leads the way with 255.5 points, while Nazareth is in eighth with 92 points. On the men's side, Stevens Institute of Technolgy sits in first place with 383 points, while Nazareth is currently in fifth place with 186 points.
Sophomore Alex LaPoint and senior Dan Burke had strong showings in the 200-yard IM Wednesday, turning in third and fourth place finishes for the men.
After recording the top two times following the morning preliminaries, both LaPoint and Burke improved upon their times for the finals. LaPoint broke his own school record, clocking a 1:53.37, while Burke followed closely at 1:53.75.
Sophomore Andrew Battaglia took the top spot in the consolation finals of the
500-yard freestyle by checking in at 4:41.73. Robert Draper checked swam a 4:48.93 in that same heat.
Another highlight came with Nazareth's 200-yard medley relay of Burke, LaPoint, Sean Doyle and Gannon Connors who touched in a school record time of 1:36.24, good for a sixth place finish.
