Box Score l Updated Stats

SPRINGFIELD, OH – The Nazareth women's soccer season came to an end on Sunday in the NCAA second round, as Penn State Berks notched a goal in the 22nd minute and held on for a 1-0 victory.  With the loss, Nazareth finishes the 2016 season at 15-4-2 overall, while Penn State Berks moves to 19-3-1.  Berks now advances to the round of 16.

Nazareth had the better of play to start the first half, including Julia Delgatti putting in a goal that was later called back due to an offside call.

Penn St. Berks took advantage of one of its first chances.  Lizzie Mummau played a ball that split two defenders and Caitlin Gold put it on the backside from 16-yards out.

Following that goal, the Nittany Lions put more pressure on and finished the half with a 6-3 edge in shots.

Nazareth came out with some energy out of the half.  Jordyn Ruston had shot from the six-yard box blocked in the opening moments.

Laura Herman used a strong individual effort in the 54th minute to generate a chance.  The junior stole the ball away from a defender, carried it into the center, a fired a shot just high of the far post.

Nazareth had another scoring chance with seven minutes remaining on a nice buildup.  Delgatti took a left footed shot that just went wide.

In the final two minutes Nazareth had a corner kick, with a great deal of traffic in front, however none of the shots were able to get through.

Brayden Dobles had three saves in net for Nazareth.

"I'm very proud of what our senior class has accomplished, said head coach Gail Mann.  They provided great leadership and are a big reason why we made it to where we did.  We will miss them dearly."

Nazareth finished the game with an 11-9 advantage in shots.  It was just the fourth time this season that the Golden Flyers were held without a goal.
