Dobles sets career shutouts record

ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth picked up a resume-building win on Saturday, taking down 16th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, 1-0, on Senior Day at Golden Flyer Stadium.  The Golden Flyers have now won eight straight contests, including shutting out their last seven opponents.

Brayden Dobles earned her 25th career shutout to set a new program record with the 10th of 2016.  The previous shutout record was 24 held by Hillary Simon who played from 2007-2010. Dobles has not yielded a goal since the first half of the game at Stevens Sept. 24. Her string of consecutive scoreless minutes is at 747.
 
The Golden Flyers are now 12-2-2 overall, while the Tartans drop to 9-4-1 on the season.
 
After a scoreless first half, Nazareth found the back of the net less than five minutes in, taking advantage of a diagonal pass from Kate Billington to Michaela Soules streaking down the left flank.  Soules fired a shot that the keeper pushed over her head, before Laura Herman tapped in the goal behind the defense for her sixth goal of the season.  Soules now has a team-leading eight assists.  
 
Dobles was sensational in net for Nazareth, coming up with numerous big saves throughout the contest.  In the 80th minute, Dobles made a point blank save to keep the score at 1-0.
 
Dobles finished the game with 11 saves.
 
Nazareth had an opportunity in the eighth minute as Jessica Barden rocketed a one-time shot over the crossbar. 
 
Julia Delgatti nearly recorded her 12th goal of the season in the 18th minute as she took a shot that the charging Tartan goalkeeper deflected enough to go wide of the net.  Just :43 seconds later, Barden was robbed off the line from a corner kick on a shot to the near post.
 
In the 34th minute, Dobles made a point blank save on a shot from eight yards out.
 
Dobles made another clutch save with five minutes remaining in the half to keep the blank slate. 
 
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday when it will host Houghton at 4 p.m. for its final home game of the season.
