Box Score l Updated Stats

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Christopher Rowland tied the school record with three assists, as Nazareth scored three second half goals to down visiting Alfred State 3-0 Tuesday night.  Griff Hannel registered three assists against St. Bonaventure in 1988, while Jefferson Dargout accomplished the same feat against Elmira in 2002.

Nazareth earns its first win and shutout since a 3-0 blanking of Pitt-Bradford on September 11.  The Golden Flyers move to 4-7-1 with the victory, while Alfred State drops to 4-8.

After an even first half, Nazareth's offense came alive after a goal from Ben Garcia.  Nazareth made good on its first corner kick of the day in the 65th minute as Rowland connected with Garcia on the back post for a header to make it 1-0.

With momentum in hand, Nazareth pushed its lead to 2-0 on Lucas Bennett's fourth goal of the season.  Rowland drew two defenders and threaded a pass to Bennett, who pushed a shot past the keeper to make it 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.

Rowland found Bennett once again just :23 seconds later.  Beating the outside back down the line, Rowland passed to a sliding Bennett at the six-yard box for the final goal of the contest.

Nate Ripic had a stellar day in net for the Golden Flyers with seven saves. He made a crucial save three minutes into the second half, stoning a point-blank shot from Brandon Holley.

He shut down Holley once again from close range later in the contest to keep the blank slate.

Each squad registered six shots in the first half. Casimer Lopata-Linn got in behind the defense and ripped a shot over the crossbar in the 19th minute for the best scoring chance in the first half.

Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Stevens at 1 p.m.
