Updated statsPOTSDAM, N.Y. -- One day after suffering its first defeat of the 2015 season, Nazareth's women's soccer team returned to the pitch Saturday and scored a season-high four goals in a 4-2 non-conference win over host Clarkson.
The loss was the first of the season for Clarkson, which dropped to 6-1 overall. Nazareth, ranked 13th nationally in Division III, is 5-1-1 overall. The Golden Flyers lost Friday for the first time this season to St. Lawrence, 1-0.
Senior
Briana Vibbard scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 28th minute to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Golden Flyers the lead for good. Sophomore Paige sullivan gained an assist after her free kick was redirected into the goal from the middle of the box by Vibbard. Freshman
Jessica Byrnes added her second career goal about 10 minutes later to give Nazareth a 3-1 lead. Sophomore
Kate Billington gained an assist.
Byrnes also picked up an assist in the second half on senior
Danielle Wilkin's first goal of the season in the 67th minute. That stretched Nazareth's lead back to two goal at 4-2 after Clarkson's Carlee Casey brought the Golden Knights to within 3-2.
Nazareth opened the scoring in the 11th minute of play as sophomore
Rachel Dise scored for the first time this season. Clarkson tied the score five minutes later before Nazareth scored the next two goals of the half.
Junior
Allison Dobles played all 90 minutes in goal and was credited with one save. Anna Demasi made four saves for Clarkson.
Nazareth is off until Saturday when the Golden Flyers open Empire 8 Conference play with a game at Houghton at 1 p.m.
