Men's Soccer Falls to Houghton in E8 Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College men's soccer team opened up Empire 8 play at home Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Houghton College.

With the loss, Nazareth falls to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in Empire 8 play, while Houghton moves to 3-3-1 and 1-0, respectively.

The Golden Flyers struck first just 1:41 into the game.  Following a foul inside the box, Nazareth was awarded a penalty kick which was taken by Yacov Zohn.  Zohn's intial shot was saved and pushed off the post, however Lucas Bennett was on the backside putting home the rebound.  It was Bennett's first goal of the season.

In an even first half, Houghton was able to equalize in the 32nd minute. The score remained 1-1 going into the break.

The Highlanders came out with some firepower in the second half, scoring two goals in less than two minutes to open up a 3-1 lead.

Andrew Bussey beat goalkeeper Alex McLean on the near post for the second goal in the 55th minute.  Shortly after, Ben Lawrence opened up a two goal advantage for the visitors.

McLean made four saves in net for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers return to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday when they will host RIT.
