Updated StatsROCHESTER, N.Y – The Nazareth College field hockey squad handed East Avenue rival St. John Fisher its first conference loss of the season on Wednesday night, as the Golden Flyers scored a goal in each half for a 2-0 victory at Fisher's Growney Stadium
With the win, Nazareth improves to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while Fisher moves to 10-4 and 6-1, respectively.
The visiting Golden Flyers seized the momentum early, as
Kristina Back fired in a goal from
Catherine Willard at the 5:24 mark. It was Back's fourth goal of the season.
Nazareth held the 1-0 lead into the break.
Although Fisher finished with a 17-8 shot advantage, the Golden Flyers benefited from the goaltending of
Lauren Devine. The senior made four saves in the first half and six in the second.
In the 59
th minute Nazareth was awarded a penalty stroke, which
Kailee Coleman put home the opportunity for the final tally of the game.
Devine earned her first career shutout in goal for Nazareth.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it will host Hartwick College at 1 p.m.
