ResultsROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College men's and women's swimming and diving squads hosted Alfred University on Saturday with the Golden Flyers earning a victory on each side. Nazareth's men's team defeated Alfred, 136-107, for their first win over the Saxons in 16 years. The women's team also was victorious, 144-86.
On the women's side, Nazareth started off strong winning the 200-meter medley relay in 2:12.17, consisting of
Brenna Riley,
Erika Holland,
Kimberly Pedrotti and
Shannon O'Malley. Holland also picked up first place finishes in the 200-meter IM, racing to a time of 2:44.65 and also coming out on top in the 100-meter butterfly at 1:14.10.
The Golden Flyers took the top three spots in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 400-meter freestyle. In the 100 backstroke, Rileyraced to the wall in 1:15.77, followed by
Danielle Meeker (1:15.96) and
Elizabeth Carro (1:16.01). For the 400 freestyle,
Cameron Hess notched a 4:49.86, followed by
Lillian Masters (4:53.76) and
Kelsey Jesaitis (5:10.01).
Hess also took the top spot in the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 9:53.25.
Nazareth dominated the diving events with
Desiree Kline,
Katie Kempf, and
Marissa Senior sweeping the first three spots. Kline scored 206.85 in the 1-meter and 203.10 in the 3-meter, Kempf carded a 145.00 and a 153.00, while Senior registered a 141.70 and a 131.75, respectively.
On the men's side, Nazareth delivered on both relays. The Golden Flyers set a school record in winning the 200-meter medley relay as the team of Dan Burke, Rob Coatsworth, Alex LaPoint, and Matt Leverich clocked a time of 1:51:12, almost two seconds ahead of Alfred. In the 400-meter freestyle relay, LaPoint, Robert Draper, Sean Doyle, and Gannon Connors ripped off a time of 3:47.41 to earn the victory.
Burke also won two other races for the Golden Flyers, including a school-record effort in the 200-meter IM. His time of 2:14.42 eclipsed the mark of 2:14.57 set by LaPoint at last week's Purple and Gold meet. Burke also captured the 100-meter backstroke in :59.71.
Other Nazareth first-place finishers included Leverich, who outkicked the competition in the 100-meter freestyle (:56.34); Draper in the 800-meter freestyle (9:09.95) and Coatsworth in the 100 breastroke (1:12.90). Coatsworth also placed second in the 200 IM.
In the diving portion, Zachary Fink and Alex Hoyt posted second- and third-place finishes in both the 1- and 3-meter events.
Nazareth returns to action on Oct. 31 when it will travel to the College of Brockport for a 1 p.m. start time.
