ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College men's and women's swimming and diving squads hosted Alfred University on Saturday with the Golden Flyers earning a victory on each side.  Nazareth's men's team defeated Alfred, 136-107, for their first win over the Saxons in 16 years. The women's team also was victorious, 144-86.

On the women's side, Nazareth started off strong winning the 200-meter medley relay in 2:12.17, consisting of Brenna Riley, Erika Holland, Kimberly Pedrotti and Shannon O'Malley. Holland also picked up first place finishes in the 200-meter IM, racing to a time of 2:44.65 and also coming out on top in the 100-meter butterfly at 1:14.10.

The Golden Flyers took the top three spots in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 400-meter freestyle.  In the 100 backstroke, Rileyraced to the wall in 1:15.77, followed by Danielle Meeker (1:15.96) and Elizabeth Carro (1:16.01).  For the 400 freestyle, Cameron Hess notched a 4:49.86, followed by Lillian Masters (4:53.76) and Kelsey Jesaitis (5:10.01).

The Golden Flyers set a school record in winning the 200-meter medley relay as the team of Dan Burke, Rob Coatsworth, Alex LaPoint, and Matt Leverich clocked a time of 1:51:12, almost two seconds ahead of Alfred.  In the 400-meter freestyle relay, LaPoint, Robert Draper, Sean Doyle, and Gannon Connors ripped off a time of 3:47.41 to earn the victory.

Burke also won two other races for the Golden Flyers, including a school-record effort in the 200-meter IM. His time of 2:14.42 eclipsed the mark of 2:14.57 set by LaPoint at last week's Purple and Gold meet. Burke also captured the 100-meter backstroke in :59.71.

Other Nazareth first-place finishers included Leverich, who outkicked the competition in the 100-meter freestyle (:56.34); Draper in the 800-meter freestyle (9:09.95) and Coatsworth in the 100 breastroke (1:12.90).  Coatsworth also placed second in the 200 IM.
