SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Freshman
Carissa Risucci put an exclamation point on the 100-yard breaststroke Friday evening at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association championships at Nottingham High School.
Risucci shaved more time off the school record she set during the morning preliminaries and automatically qualified for next month's NCAA Division III championship meet with a first-place clocking of 1:04.74. Her performance enabled Nazareth to maintain its hold on third place in the team standings with a point total of 638. Ithaca was still in first place with a score of 906, followed by Stevens with 861.
During the morning prelims, Risucci broke Aubrey Kirchoff's five-year-old school record with a time of 1:05.30 to provisionally qualify for the NCAAs. Risucci also was part of Nazareth's record-breaking 200 medley relay that finished fourth with a time of 1:48.64. Risucci was joined in that event by sophomores
Rachael Phipps and
Holly Gilligan and senior
Lauren McKinney.
McKinney also swam a strong race in the 100 butterfly, finishing second with a personal-best time of :57.75 to provisionally qualify for the NCAAs. Sophomore
Jaclyn Conklin finished ninth in the same event and also provisionally qualified with a time of :58.54.
Other highlights Friday included a second-place finish in the 800 free relay for the foursome of Phipps,
McKenna Murphy, Conklin and McKinney. The swam a school-record time of 7:52.76.
Freshman
Rachel House finished eighth in the 400 IM (4:49.58) and Phipps swam ninth in the 200 freestle (1:57.00).
