Nazareth downs Fredonia, 136-106

Golden Flyers host Hartwick Sunday

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth won nine of the 13 events Saturday in a women's swimming and diving meet at Fredonia as the Golden Flyers improved to 5-0 in dual meets with a 136-106 victory over the Blue Devils. The meet was the first of two that the Golden Flyers will swim this weekend as they return home Sunday to host Hartwick at 1 p.m. Fredonia defeated Nazareth in the men's meet, 148-87.

In the women's meet, sophomores Jaclyn Conklin and Rachael Phipps and freshman Carissa Risucci each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay.

Conklin captured the 200 freestyle in a close race, finishing in 2:02.03 to touch out Fredonia's Morgan Reisch, who swam 2:02.25. Conklin later won the 100 butterfly (1:01.55) and swam with Kristen Pedrotti, Risucci and freshman McKenna Murphy to win the 200 medley relay in 1:57.10.

Phipps was first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles with times of :25.55 and :55.52 respectively. She also was on the 200 free relay team that also featured Rachel Hayes, Rachel House and Holly Gilligan.

Risucci was a winner in the 200 IM (2:17.93) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.00). Nazareth also got a first-place finish from Lindsey Buzard in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 220.85.

In the men's meet, Nazareth had three first-place finishes. Freshman Jacob Kline won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.98 and senior Rob Wortel won the 100 freestyle in :50.31. Both swimmers competed in the 200 medley relay that finished first in 1:40.48. Senior #R.C. Weston and freshman Mike Bidwell# also swam in the event.

Wortel also placed second in the 50 free (:22.65), while Kline was second in the 100 fly (:54.52). Bidwell was second best in the 200 IM (2:06.47) and the 100 breast (1:04.23) and Weston placed second in the 100 backstroke (:56.89).
