Nazareth College's Men's and Women's Basketball teams and the Center for Spirituality will “Fight the Bite” during an exciting Midnight Madness event on October 24 from 10:00 p.m. to midnight. This special event benefits Nothing but Nets, a world-wide organization committed to fighting malaria in Africa by buying bed nets.
The goal of this event is to raise $2,000 which would buy 200 nets. Activities include basketball and carnival fun with snow cones, popcorn, music, a coloring contest, face-painting, DDR or Guitar Hero and a Chinese auction. “Fight the Bite” will take place in the Shults Center located on the Nazareth College campus at 4245 East Ave., Rochester, N.Y. 14618. Tickets cost $2 at the door. For more information, contact (585) 389-2306.
Inspired by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly, Nothing but Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, the leading killer of children in Africa. Reilly challenged his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed net which led to the creation of the campaign by the UN Foundation in 2006. Each year 500 million people are infected with malaria and it is the cause for 20% of all childhood deaths in Africa.
