• A native of Hudson Valley, Velardi coached the Golden Flyers’ volleyball team for five distinguished seasons from 1980 through 1984
• Guided the Golden Flyers to their first state title in 1980, a feat that was duplicated in 1982
• Led Nazareth to berths in the AIAW Eastern Regional playoffs (today’s equivalent of the NCAAs)
• Led Nazareth to a 35-4-1 record in 1982 and guided the team to the NAIA National Tournament in Denver
• Led Nazareth to its first NCAA volleyball tournament appearance in 1984
• Posted a five-year record of 168-44-3 for a winning percentage of .788
• Left Nazareth in 1985 to become head coach at Division I Rutgers University, where she stayed for five seasons
