• Nelson coached Nazareth’s men’s basketball team for three distinguished seasons, leading the Golden Flyers to a record of 65-17 (.793) from 1983 through 1986
• Led Nazareth to a 22-6 record in 1983-84 and the NCAA East Region championship
• Named East Region Coach of the Year in ’83-84 as Nazareth advanced to the national quarterfinals
• Guided Nazareth to 20-win seasons in 1984-85 and 1985-86 and a second NCAA tournament appearance in 1985-86
• Coached the Golden Flyers to three straight Chase Tournament championships
• Became head coach at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1986 and has won more than 300 games there and 400 games overall in more than two decades as a head basketball coach
