• As Nazareth Athletic Director for 18 years, Carey engineered dramatic growth, by overseeing an increase in the participation level to more than 25 percent of the undergraduate population
• During his tenure, Nazareth added sports in women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's field hockey, and women's lacrosse
• Retired from Nazareth in 1998 after more than four decades of service to area athletics
• Served as East Region chairperson of NCAA Division III men's basketball selection committee for seven years
• Involved with the area Chase Basketball Tournament since its inception in 1966, winning four titles as a coach (at RIT) and four more as Nazareth AD
• One of two charter inductees in the Chase Tournament Hall of Fame in 1998
