2006 Men’s Soccer Team

Nazareth’s 2006 men’s soccer team was among the best in school history as the Golden Flyers won a school-record 15 games and advanced to the national quarterfinals
Selected in a pre-season poll to finish fifth in the Empire 8 Conference, Nazareth advanced past Ithaca in penalty kicks and then blanked top-seeded RIT 1-0 to win the E8 title and to gain an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament
Nazareth’s NCAA Tournament run included shutout wins over Geneseo and UC Santa Cruz as well as an epic penalty kick battle with Medaille in which the Golden Flyers prevailed 16-15
Featuring an opportunistic offense, Nazareth had 13 different goal scorers during the season and scored 42 goals as a team
The Golden Flyers also featured a stingy defensive unit that yielded less than one goal per game and amassed eight shutouts
Head coach Danny Gilbertson was named Northeast Region Coach of the Year
