Rivera started the 2016 indoor season on an emphatic note Saturday as he placed first in the 35-pound weight throw at the RIT Invitational. His heave of 18.17 meters (or 59 feet, 7 1/2 inches) was nearly eight feet farther than the event's second-place finisher. An All-American in that event last season, Rivera ranks second nationally with a season-best of 18.27 meters (59 feet, 11 1/4 inches).
