Hess shattered her own school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle Saturday as she successfully defended her title in that event at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association championships at Webster Aquatic Center. Her time of 17:07.91 was more than 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and ranks 12th nationally. Earlier last week, she broke a six-year-old school record by finishing third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.35.
