Nazareth downs Elmira, 8-1

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth captured its fifth straight women's tennis match Saturday as the Golden Flyers swept all three doubles matches on the way to an 8-1 victory over Elmira in Empire 8 Conference action.

Nazareth improved to 6-3 overall and 6-1 in conference matches. Elmira is 3-4 in the Empire 8 and 4-5 overall.

Nazareth's top doubles tandem of Alison Tepas and Alex Vizgaitis had little difficulty disposing of Elmira's #1 team and they defeated the duo of Amy Schmidt and Melanie Walker 8-1. Tepas and Vizgaitis also defeated the same two women at first and second singles respectively. Tepas won 6-2, 6-3 overa Schmidt, while Vizgaitis defeated Walker 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Cara Yinger was a straight-set winner at #4 as were freshman Ami Petosa and sophomore Krista Pagan at #5 and #6 respectively.

Elmira's lone point came at third singles as Nazareth's Christine Cary and Elmira's Ayaka Yoshino split the first two sets, before Yoshino prevailed in a tiebreaker.
