Cook, McCaskill make first team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Michelle Cook and Sarah McCaskill, both juniors on the Nazareth women's lacrosse team, have been selected as first-team all-stars in the Empire 8 Conference for 2010. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Nazareth also had three second-team selections in freshman midfielder Alyssa Johnston, junior midfielder Kristine Olijnyk and senior goalie Ann Sessler.

Cook, of Waterloo, N.Y. and a graduate of Waterloo High School, was selected at attack. She leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 51 points on 32 goals and 19 assists. Cook recently scored her 100th career goal and ranks eighth all-time with 145 points on 100 goals and 45 assists.

McCaskill, of Cypress, Texas and a graduate of Cy-Fair High School, was selected as a defender. She has started all 15 games for the Golden Flyers in 2010 and has a team-best 19 caused turnovers. She is second on the team with 24 ground balls.

Johnston, of Canandaigua, N.Y. and a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, has enjoyed a solid first season for the Golden Flyers as she ranks second on the team in scoring with 38 points on 26 goals and 12 assists. She also ranks first on the team in ground balls (26) and draw controls (29).

Olijnyk, of Webster, N.Y. and a graduate of Webster Thomas, ranks third on the team in scoring with 34 points, including 29 goals. She is in her first season with the Golden Flyers after transferring from Monroe Community College.

Sessler, of Cazenovia, N.Y. and a graduate of Cazenovia High School, has 141 saves for a conference-best .530 save percentage. She was honored as E8 Goalie of the Week three times in 2010.

Nazareth finished 10-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play and will play at Ithaca May 8 in the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament
