Kylie Bartlett was the only Nazareth player to score in double figures Sunday as she finished with a game-high 11 points, but the visiting Golden Flyers had little trouble winning their women's basketball season opener as they routed Hilbert, 77-21.
Nazareth scored the first 19 points of the game with senior
Kelly Dunne hitting a three-pointer to set the tone early. Junior
Mary Holland had five points in the opening stretch, while sophomores
Ashley Gallagher and
Brittany Tallchief had two baskets each.
Nazareth made 16 of 40 shots in the first half with five three-pointers to take a commanding 39-14 advantage. Nazareth then limited Hilbert to just two second-half field goals in 22 attempts and seven points overall to pull away further.
Bartlett's 11 points came on 4 for 6 shooting with three three-point baskets. Sophomore
Brittany Wilson added nine points and Dunne and sophomore
Erica Shaw each scored eight points. Gallagher had seven points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Nazareth opens its home schedule Tuesday against Fredonia at 7 p.m.
