Nazareth hosts Golden Flyer Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- For the fifth time in six years, the women's cross country team won the Golden Flyer Invitational, hosted by Nazareth College. Senior Caitlyn Parmelee paced Nazareth in the 4-K race with a second place time of 16:27. Junior Matt Morales won the men's 6-K race with a time of 18:30.

Alfred State won the men's meet with a combined team score of just 27 points. Alfred had five runners finish in the top nine places to claim the victory. The Golden Flyers were second with 42 team points and Finger Lakes was third with 102 points.

After Morales, sophomore Peter Fekete placed fifth overall to be Nazareth's second overall finisher with a time of 18:50. Freshman John Longo was 11th overall (19:16). Longo was followed by freshman Anthony Romeo (19:16) in 12th place, and sophomores Tim Rutan (19:44) and Nick Spera (20:11), who placed 17th and 20th, respectively.

Freshman Josh Strough (20:41) was the Golden Flyers' next runner in 25th place. Senior Dave Patalano (20:43) and sophomore Donato DiRenzo (20:48), who placed 26th and 27th overall, were Nazareth's eighth and ninth finishers.

In the women's meet, the Golden Flyers claimed seven of the top nine places to total just 24 team points. Daemen finished in second with 78 points and Alfred State finished third with 91 points.

Senior Shannon Bradley, who finished fourth overall, was Nazareth's second runner with a time of 16:37. Freshman Kelsey Ryan (16:38) was the third for the Golden Flyers in fifth place. Ryan was followed by junior Sarah Wilcox (16:42) in sixth place, sophomore Michelle Gillette (16:44) in seventh, junior Samantha Hickok in eighth (16:48), and freshman Kelsey Mash (16:52) in ninth place.

Other top performers for Nazareth included sophomore Jordan Knutsen (17:24) in 13th place, freshman Christa Johnson (17:28) in 15th place, and junior Jacquelyn Brambley (17:37) in 17th place.

The Golden Flyers' next meet is October 24th, at Genesee Valley Park, where they will compete at the NYSCTC Championships.
